Tips and tricks to control Alcohol intake

  • Many people enjoy a drink from time to time. An occasional drink does not affect the health much. But drinking too much or too often alcohol is bad for health. If it is affecting you in anyway – health wise or financially, it is time to cut-down on it.

    Here are some tips and tricks to cut it down:
    • One way is to observe abstinence for a few days at a time and then increasing it slowly to longer periods to achieve lower tolerance.
    • Get honest about the risks and benefits of drinking. Challenge the benefits. If you think that you need alcohol to unwind, loosen up, have fun, bond with your friends, or socialize with the other gender, you may be wrong.
    • Don’t keep a beer or other alcoholic products in the house. Chances are you will drink it.
    • Keep a count of drinks you take in a day. This may help motivate you to figure out how many drinks to cut back.
    • Cut down your drinking days. Start drinking later and quit earlier. Drink a bottle or glass of water/club soda after every beer.
    • Limit your consumption at home.
    • Hang out with people who will support your choice to cut back.
    Most importantly, believe that you can stop drinking. Self-confidence and commitment enhance your chance for success. Men should not drink more than one drink per hour and not exceed three drinks per evening. Women should not exceed one drink per hour and should not drink more than two drinks per evening. Don’t just complain about your drinking. Do something about it!
