    The morning-after pill is a type of emergency birth control that contains the hormone Levonorgestrel, a progestin, or ulipristal acetate, a progesterone agonist-antagonist. Progestins and progesterones are a class of hormones which like the name implies are “Pro” “Gestational” in other words they occur naturally in the body when a pregnancy has occurred and support that pregnancy as well as making another one impossible while the baby is on board.

    Morning-after pills are meant to prevent pregnancy in those who forgot to use their regular birth control, or who’s regular Birth control failed such when a condom breaks.     How to take Emergency contraceptive?
    The first dose of pills should be taken within 72 hours of Un-protected intercourse, sometimes followed by a second Dose of pills 12 hours later. This type of ECP is most effective when it is taken as soon as possible after intercourse. Although some studies have shown that it can still work up to 120 hours after intercourse. Morning-after pills used are only 80% effective in the prevention of pregnancy which is much lesser than regular contraceptive. 
    How does the emergency pill work?
    The morning-after pill works in a number of ways to prevent pregnancy. They may delay ovulation, affect the development of the uterine lining, and disrupt the actual fertilisation process. If implantation has already occurred and a girl is pregnant, levonorgestrel will not interrupt the pregnancy.

    This last effect of morning-after pills causes moral or ethical concern for some individuals; if a person is thinking of using the morning-after pill she must decide if she feel comfortable with this possibility.
    Some side effects of the morning-after pill for include:
    • Early or late period
    • Spotty, heavier, or lighter period than usual
    • Nausea
    • Breast tenderness
    • Dizziness
    • Headaches
    • Irregular bleeding
    If the period's does not return within three weeks of taking Morning-after pills, or if she has any symptoms of pregnancy, she should see a doctor. The person should be sure to tell her doctor that she has taken emergency contraception.
    Morning-after pills taken may not prevent ectopic pregnancy, a deadly condition where the egg is fertilized outside the uterus.
    Some symptoms of ectopic pregnancy include:
    • Severe pain in the lower abdomen
    • Spotting, especially after a missed or light period
    • Feeling dizzy or faint
    If a person suspects she may have an ectopic pregnancy they should delay seeking medical treatment.
